As a Loan Specialist I you will:
Research loan information and locate credit union records as requested by members or staff. Work closely with other employees in obtaining information and ascertaining necessary corrections.
Perform clerical office duties such as typing, faxing, photocopying, scanning, sorting, and distributing mail to appropriate office staff.
Process claims for credit life and disability insurance, debt cancellation protection, and CPI claims on collateral.
Assist Consumer Loan Processors and serve as back-up in preparing closing packages for distribution to branches or directly to the member. Set up files and obtain required documents to complete the loan file including payoffs and releases, verifications of income, and purchase orders.
Review, file, and image loan documents and pull loan files as needed.
Work various assigned delinquent accounts on a daily basis to obtain promise to pay including, but not limited to, credit cards, negative shares, and loans.
Strive to minimize delinquency and loan losses and achieve goals set for the credit union.
Provide assistance by offering solutions based on members' individual needs with the goal of negotiating immediate payment and/or promises to pay with specified payment dates and amounts. Identify sources of money to assist members with payment options based on individual circumstances.
Accurately and professionally document collection systems with details of current contacts and subsequent results for follow up.
Make recommendations on card restrictions and revocation of delinquent lines of credit or credit cards not revoked automatically and maintain as necessary.
Assist members experiencing financial difficulty by making referrals to consumer credit counseling services.
Assist with credit report inquiries and dispute verifications.

Skills / Requirements
Requires education equivalent to a four-year high school education or general education degree (GED). Some post-secondary education preferred.
Professional well developed interpersonal skills essential for servicing credit union members and projecting a positive image as representative for the credit union. Approaches others in a tactful manner, reacts well under pressure, accepts responsibility for own actions, and follows through on commitments.
Requires judgment to solve day-to-day problems and a willingness to make decisions in a timely manner, usually within established guidelines. Includes appropriate people in decision-making process and can support and explain reasoning for decisions.
Requires excellent interviewing and interpersonal skills, ability to listen to members' needs and promote appropriate credit union products and services.
Ability to communicate over the phone including complaint resolution, settling disputes, resolving grievances and conflicts, and otherwise negotiating with others required.
Basic working knowledge of PC applications including Word and Excel required. Intermediate mathematical skills required (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc.)
6 months of customer service, cash handling, collections, or lending experience preferred.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
